Request

Can I make a suggestion? I think it would be helpful to put the name of the recipe in labels so that when we want to make a recipe from the past we can easily pull up all the posts for that recipe. Then it will be easy to read everyone's comments and suggestions. The initial poster should make the label and everyone will have to put in that exact label for it to work. What do you think?

that's a good idea, and in fact I was thinking the same thing today as I was scrolling through past posts to find a specific recipe. Do we need to go back to our pasts posts and edit them then? Is it possible to add a label to a past post?

I also think that's a good idea. Although instead of having a very specific recipe title as one key word, I suggest having descriptive key words and having all follow-up posts include the same key words.

For instance, for the goat cheese quesadillas, instead of having one label that says "Potato, Goat Cheese, Greens Quesadillas" everyone can put all or some of the following labels: "potato", "goat cheese", "spinach", "quesadillas".

That way it's easier to search and it's more likely that posts won't get split up in search results because someone didn't put exactly the right title as a key word. The original poster can suggest the keyword tags everyone should use.

I think the important thing is for people to remember to use tags (which I haven't been in the habit of doing).

Thoughts?

I think that sounds great. I agree with Danielle that it would be better to use key words.

So, should we each go back and change our own or should we have one person change all the past recipes?

I've gone back and added keywords to all my previous posts. Cami, I think you're the only one who can change everyone's posts. The rest of us can only edit our own posts.

Just let everyone change their own cause that is too much work for Cami. I was really only thinking about doing this from now on...not necessarily from the past, but it would be nice.

I'm a little confused about what you mean though Danielle. I think an abbreviated label makes sense, but if they are all separated then if I choose to look up the label "goat cheese" for example and there are 3 different recipes with goat cheese then I'll get all of them. And if someone doesn't include "goat cheese" and only puts "potato quesadilla" then I won't get their recipe if I look up "goat cheese". If there is a specific abbreviated label for each recipe that is initially indicated by the person providing the recipe then I can pull up all and only the posts for a specific recipe. Does that make sense? However, I can also see your point. We might just need to experiment to see what works, but if people are going to go back and change them we should decide first.

After some thought I think we should do a combo of Danielle's idea and mine. I like the idea of having categories so I can go through and find "cakes" or "salads." What do you all think?

It seems like we have come to a consensus, but I will put in my two cents. I think we should label it with the recipe name and then label it more generally like "chicken", "side dish", etc. So if I just have chicken and want to make a chicken recipe it is easy to find.

Hey LuAnn and Co, I'm too lazy to read through all of the comments to see if this was already suggested, so if it was, just judge me as the moron I am and let's move on.

If not, might I suggest you add the 'search this blog' widget that I have on my sidebar. It's powered by google and it is really easy to install and fantastic to use. You can find anything you're looking for on your own blog by doing a simple search.

For ??'s see me, I can help!
